My undergrate degree is from Florida State University, and as we all know the undergrate degree is the one that holds the most memories. I grew up in Largo, Florida. How I ended up in Hays Kansas, will forever remain a mystery.
I put my monster bad website in the week 12 discussion board as a QT attachment. You may or may not get the music to play, but trust me the music is not related to either page at all.
When I made this horrible site, I had fun choosing different colors and fonts, even though I know they look bad together. I used a few pictures I had on file and kind of related the flowers on the bedspread to the flower on the second page which you really can hardly see. The colors on page 1 were meant to be some that make you think of winter. At least I did. The shapes have no relevance to the pages at all except to cover the picture and show off my wonderful talents. I learned that you can play all you want, but if you don't use some logic and consideration of your audience, your site will really suck. And then, who will see it and why waste the time? Right?!!
I uploaded my monster ugly website to my scatcat account. The address is posted in our discussion board week 12.
When creating my monster page, I tried to break as many rules as possible, including mismatched fonts, clashing colors, image distortion, and unrelated pages. It was actually pretty fun to make a webpage that had no rhyme or reason to it. From this project, I learned that planning is the key to success when creating a webpage. Designers must have a vision in mind. It must be purposefully thought out, and the audience must be considered.
I "finally" was able to upload a website I made using EZediaQTI to the FHSU server! It's too bad it had to be a really terrible one.
While making this site, I learned: 1) it can be more fun, or at least more mindless throwing something really bad together. 2) Even something bad, is worse when your animation downloads do not move on your website - AKA graphic problems. 3) Even when you try to make something bad you still need to follow directions. 4) The people who design "really" busy websites, "really" have to work hard to do so.
My Monster web site is at http://24.225.31.148/lms/monster/index.html . Even with as little artistic ability as I have, it is still kind of difficult to make something ugly on purpose. We are so conditioned to doing things that match (hopefully)that when we are faced with the task of trying to make things ugly, it is somewhat of a challenge. I was originally going to go with a white background and bright yellow text, but I thought it would be nice for someone to actually be able to see the monster bad site. The other thing I almost did was put a bunch of dead links on the index page. :-)
My monster website URL is posted in the Wk 12 discussion board. I think it took me almost as much time to make a 2-page bad website as it did an OK 5-page website! It's hard for me to create clashing colors, bad fonts, unrelated images, etc., when I'm so used to creating presentations that are appealing for the classroom. What I learned was that even if someone has created a bad website, they still had to put forth effort, and they had to have learned something in the meantime. Good way to see what doesn't work!
Making this monster site was a little difficult for me because it went against all the things that I have learned. It was also fun because I did not worry about using similar fonts and how large or how readable they may be. I used contrasting colors that only a juvenile would think look good together. My links are hard to see and don't stand out. I also made it wider than the screen and the user would need to scroll horizontally to see everything. The graphics are not sized well and really have no meaning to the site. It truly is a monster.
Making a monster site was difficult, but it did help to remind me of the many things not to do. To me some of the main no no's are colors (how backgrounds and texts goes), flow, links/buttons, and ease of use. I really hate going to a website that is boring or difficult to find what I need. I am the type of person who wants a website to be user friendly, I do not want to spend 30 minutes finding out what the buttons or links go to.
