Photo Manipulation

What types of image manipulation software have you used in the past or is Photoshop your first? What do you like about the software?

To be honest with you, I haven't used any other photo manipulation software except Paint (if you can count that). This next year, we are planning on teaching a class called computers and technology where we spend one semester teaching Premiere, Photoshop, and Flash (I'm seriously wondering if one semester is enough time to try and cover the basics of all of these classes). The good news is that I will get the opportunity to teach these three pieces of software in the Spring of '06. I'm looking forward to it.

I haven't had much experience with photo manipulation either. I have cropped pictures for my LiveText portfolio, although that was over two years ago. I'm really excited that I purchased Photoshop Elements. Using the tutorials really helped, and when I messed up, I just didn't save, and tried once again! I was a good experience.

I have used a few different photo manipulation programs although, I don't feel exactly fluent in any particular one. They all work about the same once you get the feel for doing it. I have used Paint, Microsoft Photo Editor, and Photoshop. I really like all the tools there are to touch up and improve a photo with the click of a few options.

I haven't done a lot of photo manipulation in the past, just enough to get the job done--usually cropping, sharpening, etc. At school we usually use iPhoto and the software that came with our Apple ColorOne Scanner. I have used Photoshop Elements a bit also. At home, on my Dell, I have been using Paint.

I have used Photoshop for about 10 years or so now, but do not know how to use it to its potential. Most of my experience is in scanning in 35mm slide medical images to use in Powerpoint, and also MANY medical images out of textbooks. I've found the hardest to manipulate are the x-ray images, as brightness/contrast is so important so as not to go too much one way or the other.

I have used Paint (of course), Corel Draw (although I still don't have a clue as to what most of it does), Jasc's Paint Shop Pro--now that program is a breeze!, MS PhotoDraw (I'm getting pretty good with this one) and (since last semester) Adobe Premiere elements. I am looking forward to learning Photoshop... seems like a neat program- I'm still waiting for mine, ordered it 2 weeks ago. Arghhh. I shall have to post what I like about the program in a later blurb on this blog. Will be fun though, like opening a new toy!

I have only used the most elementary "crop, resize" features on Windows 2000 and XP. The student population I work with in a particular classroom is comprised of profoundly handicapped students pre-K to second grade with a significant emphasis on teaching self-care skills (AKA self-feeding). Anyway, I have spent any "free" time I have at work taking digital pictures of the students at each step of their feeding routine, while staff feeds the students. In addition, I have been modifying the photos to make "digital/step by step" feeding routine guides for each student. Since some of the students have specialized diets "pureed food" this project really is a safety issue as well as a training one.

I haven't used many photo manipulation software programs. Microsoft programs that were already on my computer along with the photoshop elements have been the extent of it. Last semester, some of my students got to experiment with photoshop along with me. We had a lot of fun learning the different changes that you could make on a photo. I also used the magnetic lasso tool to help me cut out an image to use on my digital storybook.

I have used quite a few photo editing software. Some years ago I used some Kai's software, and others I can't even remember their names. Have also been using iPhoto and Photoshop. I use iPhoto to make photo galleries, I bought a cool add on to it called BetterWebHTML that makes good photo galleries very fast. I used to use Photoshop for it but found this quicker and easier. Still use Photoshop alot for pictures to be used for video or printing though.

I have not used much of any photo manipulation software. I did learn a few things about photoshop a couple of summers ago at a week long technology class offered by FHSU's business department. There FHSU photo lab demonstrated some of the amazing things that can be done. I have not utilized it much since then, but enjoyed how easy it was to fix some of the things that were wrong with the photos.

Ok, so I've had some time to play with this program, and I really love it. I especially like the Help section and its "Do This For Me" button... how handy! I'm excited about learning more with this nifty little program. :)
